My old garden near Leominster

Old Golderwell

The garden, surrounding an old stone and oak framed cottage, is based around a series of clearly defined areas or “rooms”. At the front of the house the east facing rose garden includes a row of three box domes echoing the low roofline of the cottage, and leads through to a restful green garden with clipped box and hornbeam hedging.

The main garden at the rear of the cottage is sheltered by a yew hedge surrounding a circular lawn and mixed planting, leading in turn to a knot garden, reinstated from an original design, and beyond this a small formal pond with lush planting around provides a haven for wildlife. Roses, box, geraniums, alchemilla and yew are among my favourite plants and have been combined to good effect in my garden here in rural Herefordshire.
